The Zeppelin iPod Speaker Dock

Gold Industrial Design Excellence Awards 2008

Client: Bowers & Wilkins (Britain)
Design: Native Design (Britain), Bowers & Wilkins (Britain)

The Zeppelin iPod Speaker Dock is a beautiful example of innovation. IPod accesories are generally less grand, and this speaker dockpresents itself as much more than a mere acessory. It does follow in other iPod accesorys' footsteps as a highly stylish and coveted item, but contrasts many othe riPod items as a weighty and large object.
The Zeppelin is a speaker system to rival any other sound system . It is for the ever popular iPod, and can turn it into a beautiful stereo that can be displayed in any fashionable lounge room or dining room. The polished stainless steel central band that holds the iPod allows the angle of the speakers to rotate and point sound in any desired direction.. The overall sound experience with this item is fantastic, and the object is classy and beautiful.

Line: The Zeppelin derives its beauty from its simple, stylish line. Just one basic overall shape, with a sleek silver line down the middle, it enables the unit to swivel up and down on its axis. In true form to the iPod fashion, it's sleek and practical and simple.
Balance: It's a perfectly symetrical object. The colours balance out well, with black on the outsides and silver stainless steel creating a central point of view.
Contrast: There is a strong contrast between the polished stainless steel of the centre and the softblack fabric used for all speakers. This contrast brings out the sofistication of the object.
Form: This blissfully simple object is sleek and classy, like the Zeppelin itself. It's an iPod accesory beautiful enough to match the iPod , but with real form and substance.
Colour: Not needing a range of different options (s the personal iPod already conveys the personality of the owner), this item is classically black and silver, always.
Texture: The polished stainless steel centre line is smooth and sleek, while the black fabric covering the speaker ends is soft.
Proportion: The dock creates a beautiful proportion with the small and handy size of the iPod. It has a nice and weighty element. making the whole unit appear as a sophisticated sound system, more sophisticated than the previous iPod speaker systems.
